The foundation of any successful construction project is design. A design is a solution to asset of specific site needs. The final product is a marriage of form and function that satisfy those objectives. As a designer I first listen to the wishes of the client and then interpret those ideas into a vision that becomes the finished project.
My design philosophy begins with the structural elements. Circulation, hardscape (to include masonry, retaining walls, patios), and drainage are paramount to a project’s function and long-term aesthetic appeal.
Planting is what most people think of first when the term landscape is used. A good planting design is essential and should consider the existing site and environmental conditions. With that said planning is decoration. It is to landscape what carpet and throw pillow are to a home interior. Irrigation goes hand-in-hand with planting design and is critical to its success or failure.
Accents and features are what make a landscape unique. These features are often represented by the incorporation of pottery, swimming pools, water features, outdoor kitchens, arbors and lighting. These are the wow factor elements to a landscape’s appeal and livability.
